Choosing a dryer
Choose a shoe dryer by the routine it needs to fit
Five practical questions before buying: footwear permission, outlet reach, controls, storage and the correct regional edition.
SOTHING
Shoe Care Journal
Practical shoe and boot care notes for rainy commutes, training, ski days and everyday routines. Read the care guidance before choosing a dryer.
Trail days
Mud on the outside, moisture inside: two jobs after a hike
A post-hike plan that separates dirt removal, drying and aftercare. Waterproof hiking boots still need model-specific care instructions.
Controls explained
A timer ends a session. It does not tell you the shoe is dry.
Why a single drying-time promise is not useful, and how to plan a session around moisture, construction, permitted settings and checking progress.
At home
Make room for the dryer—not just for the boots
How to plan an entryway drying spot around the manual: surface, airflow, water, cords and a clear place for removable parts.
Power & travel
Taking a shoe dryer on a trip? The plug is only the first check.
Check the actual unit rating, local power supply and permitted use before packing a shoe dryer. A plug adapter does not convert voltage.
Before using heat
Can this pair go on a shoe dryer? Read more than the upper.
A compatibility check for uppers, linings, membranes and footbeds. Waterproof, leather and heat-mouldable are not drying permissions.
Work boots
A wet shift ends at the door. Work-boot care starts there.
Separate cleaning, drying and inspection after a wet shift. Leather, waterproof linings and safety components may need different care.
Ski boot care
Ski boots off. What happens to the liners next?
A lodge-side check for ski boots and liners, including the important difference between heat moulding and permission to use a heated dryer.
Running
After the run, open the shoes before you close the gym bag
A low-effort post-run routine for damp trainers, removable insoles and the next session—without assuming every running shoe tolerates heat.
Rainy days
Wet shoes after the commute: what to do when you get home
A practical sequence for a rain-soaked pair: open it, remove free water, check the care instructions and decide how to dry it.
